Five Milwaukee pitchers struck out 16 Padre batters Thursday afternoon as the Brewers took the series at Miller Park with a 5-1 decision. Lorenzo Cain homered and Freddie Peralta got his seventh win in relief.
The win moved manager Craig Counsell’s team past Chicago and into second place in the National League Central Division. The Cardinals beat the Cubs 5-4 in 10 innings to stay three games ahead of Milwaukee. The Brewers remain one game behind Washington, who had the day off, for the first wild-card spot.
The Pirates visit Miller Park tonight (Friday) for the start of a three-game series, with Chase Anderson on the mound for Milwaukee. First Pitch is at 7:10.
