
James Nettles
A Manitowoc man has been sentenced for his part in dog starvation and the death of another dog in 2018. James A. Nettles was found guilty due to a no-contest plea for 2-misdemeanors; Party to a crime of intentionally mistreating an animal causing death and party to a crime for intentionally mistreating an animal.
James Nettles will be on probation for 2-years, pay $805 in restitution, may NOT own or care for pets, attend counseling, maintain full-time employment and pay court costs. In addition; the court ordered and stayed 60-days in the Manitowoc County Jail to be imposed at the Probations agent discretion and upon court order.
The conviction stems from an incident in December of 2018 when Manitowoc Police found a couple arguing over the death of one of the couple’s two animals. Officers found that both dogs were kept downstairs. The deceased canine had no food in its stomach or small intestines while the other dog suffered from starvation and was extremely underweight and dehydrated.
The co-defendant, Jennifer E. Nettles, has been charged with 4 counts in connection to this same case and has a plea date scheduled for 3 p.m. on September 24th.
