The Manitowoc County District Attorney’s Office will have a new assistant DA on board next month. District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre tells SeehaferNews.com that Governor Tony Evers signed off on the budget yesterday that places more than 60 new assistant prosecutors in 56 counties. “I’m very pleased I am getting some help,” She said. “We have been in an extreme shortage for some time.”
LaBre says help is needed two-fold. One is to handle the increasing drug caseload especially Involving methamphetamine, and so they can implement some of the recovery programs so they do not return back to jail. LaBre told us that she hopes “that having the additional prosecutor will help get some of those programs up and running, or upping the volume in some of those programs as well.”
The County’s top prosecutor adds she’s very thankful for the legislature’s help, especially First District Senator Andre Jacque, to help “lighten the burden” for all DA’s statewide. The new assistant DA is expected to start on October 14th.
