Obesity is called a major health epidemic by the Wisconsin Medical Association and the problem isn’t getting any better. An estimated 32 percent of Wisconsin residents are obese, slightly above the national rate of 31 percent. The only marginally good news is that this state’s rate has stayed the same while the obesity rate nationwide is still climbing. Experts say diet and exercise — or the lack — are causing the problem, while stress could be a factor. Twenty minutes of walking each day could be a good first step toward dealing with the issue.
