Statistics show that over 2,400 people died as a result of complications of Alzheimer’s in Wisconsin alone, in 2017. Tomorrow, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held in Manitowoc-Two Rivers. Kate Kahles is Program manager for the Alzheimer’s Association Wisconsin Chapter in DePere, and she told SeehaferNews.com that registration will begin at 8:00 AM, at the YMCA and a ceremony will take place at 9:00 AM. Walkers will take off from the starting line at 9:20 AM.
According to Kahles, this walk coincides with other events over a three-month period. “We have about 600 walks across the country,” she said. “We have a number here in Wisconsin, and this is a big event over the course of August, September and October.”
Kate says alzheimer’s disease is very prevalent across the state with 110,000 people living with the most common form of dementia. She also explained that “Manitowoc County in particular has high rates because we are an aging county.”
The local Walk to End Alzheimers involves one and three mile distances, and area residents are invited to both donate and volunteer for the cause.
