Milwaukee County leaders say raising the sales tax by one percent would create funding for aging buildings, critical services and would make way for a property tax cut. The idea was made public Monday in South Milwaukee. Backers say it would bring in an additional 160-million dollars in tax revenue in the first year. Voters will need to give their approval to the increase. Milwaukee County sends more revenue to the state each year than it receives.
