The Fond du Lac Humane Society has 3 dogs in their care after 2 separate cases of mistreatment to animals were reported this week.
The Fond du Lac police say they are trying to find the owners of a dog which was left to starve. The owners moved out and police want to know why they didn’t take the dog with them when they went. Vets say the animal is suffering severe dehydration. Police say based on the amount of feces and urine, it appears the dog had been left alone as long as three weeks. The Fond du Lac Humane Society is involved in the long process of bringing the dog back from starvation. It can only be given small amounts of food and water so it won’t die from bloat.
In another incident on Monday, Fond du Lac Police arrested a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman from Georgia for throwing two puppies into a retention pond. The Humane Society is currently treating the puppies, estimated to be between 8 and 9 weeks old, for water in the lungs and exposure to blue-green algae. The Georgia couple could possibly be facing criminal charges of mistreatment of animals and party to the crime of mistreatment of animals. A citizen in the area who called 911 was able to record the two throwing the puppies into the pond.
