Thousands of people will be flocking to Neshotah Beach in Two Rivers this weekend for the annual “Kites Over Lake Michigan.” Chow Chong, who owns Unique Flying Objects in the downtown area, is the organizer of this major tourism event now in its’ 14th year. After starting as a small-time event in its first year, Chong explained that it is now “one of the largest kite festivals in the Midwest. We have people coming from all over, both kite fliers and spectators.”
Chong also said the Kite festival has a great draw from word of mouth and on social media. “It’s a family-friendly event,” he told us. “Typically you see folks you don’t even recognize walking up and down the beach, and most of them are from out of town.”
They have a night kite fly tomorrow on the beach, weather-permitting, and fireworks after the release of sky lanterns. The festival runs tomorrow from 11 am to 10 pm, and Sunday between 11-4.
