The Sheboygan Area School District has been awarded a $150,000 School-Based Mental Health Services Grant through a highly competitive grant process from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The District will receive the grant in installations, spread over two years. Seth Harvatine, Superintendent of the Sheboygan Area School District responded to the news in a release saying, “Our teachers and staff are learning new strategies and resources to help our students who need extra attention in this area. Student success and development are at the heart of our actions every day.” This grant award will equip school-based teams in 26 buildings with a more consistent, data-driven, and equitable implementation model to address mental health promotion, prevention and response. It will also help to improve communication and collaboration between the school, community, and families of elementary school students who need more intensive or ongoing mental health support.
