A 46-year-old Brookfield woman faces charges of mistreatment of animals after the puppy she was walking died. Rebecca Schroederus made an initial Waukesha County Circuit Court appearance Thursday. Bystanders had to step in last week when the California woman was walking her parents’ five-month-old English bulldog. They say she was dragging the puppy on a leash behind her while it was gasping and bleeding from the mouth. Schroederus has called it “an accidental tragedy.” If found guilty, she could go to prison for three years.
