An Elkhart Lake man is being accused of sexually assaulting a babysitter he hired to watch his children last week. Police were informed of the incident by the sitter’s father after she called him for help. It is being reported that the man, Thomas Shortt, went into the room where the sitter was sleeping and began to inappropriately touch her. The sitter then yelled, and was able to quickly remove herself from the situation and contact her parents. When officers arrived, Shortt was found to be “extremely intoxicated”, and the sitter was upstairs in tears. Shortt denies any criminal activity, but was still charged with fourth degree sexual assault. If found guilty, he could spend up to 9 months in prison, and pay $10,000 in fines.
