Unemployment rose slightly in Manitowoc last month while the county jobless rate dipped slightly. Numbers released by the State Department of Workforce Development show the city’s 3-point-8 percent number was up from 3-point-seven percent in June and last July’s rate of 3.3 percent. Meanwhile, three.four percent of Manitowoc County’s workforce was unemployed, down from 3.5 percent in June but up from June 2018’s rate of three percent. Manitowoc was one of only eight of the state’s thirty largest municipalities where the July jobless number rose. Wisconsin’s unemployment rate was three percent in July—the second straight month it increased (June’s rate was 2.9 percent.)
