The new Shopko Optical will be holding a grand opening in Manitowoc this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. located at 4530 Calumet Avenue. This is one of 11 free-standing optical centers in Wisconsin after transitions were made from their previous big-box locations last month.
Shopko filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in mid-January resulting in multiple store closures and jobs lost including the Manitowoc location. In May, the retailer completed an agreement with Shoptikal LLC, an affiliate of Monarch Alternative Capital of New York, to sell its optical business for $8.5 million saving nearly 700 jobs nationwide.
Shopko Optical CEO Jim Eisen states in a news release “We are proud to continue to serve our patients at our new optical centers in Wisconsin. We have been a part of these communities (including Manitowoc) for many years and we look forward to continuing to provide our patients with the same high-quality eye care services, frames, and lenses they have come to expect.”
