
In Semi-Pro Football, an undermanned Manitowoc County Mariners squad was defeated by the Illinois Cowboys 34-0 Saturday night in Chicago. Coach Marcos Alfaro was missing some key personnel, including his kicker, for the bus trip to Alonza Stagg Stadium & had just 23 players available for the regular season finale. The Mariners only trailed 12-0 halftime and for the game were inside the Cowboys 20 yardline 5 times but failed to score.
Defensively, Alfaro praised the efforts of Will Dickey who had 5 tackles and 2 sacks and Jaris Parnau who registered 4 tackles and 1 sack. Offensively, Chad Levendosky had 29-yards on 3-carries and added 57-yards on 3 pass receptions.
Manitowoc County, with a record of 3-5 finished 3rd in the Reichart Conference of the Mid-States Football League and they will compete in the MSFL Playoffs..beginning Saturday, August 24th. Following a league-wide bye week, the Mariners will travel to Raabe Stadium in Milwaukee that day for a 12:30 kickoff against the Wisconsin Hitmen.
