Last year in Wisconsin, alcohol-related crashes resulted in 159 deaths and nearly 3,300 injuries. While alcohol-impaired drivers remain a concern, a growing problem involves drug-impaired drivers – people whose ability to safely operate a motor vehicle is compromised by legal or illegal drugs including prescription and over-the-counter medications. To help combat impaired driving, the Manitowoc Police Department will be participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which will run from August 16th through September 2nd. This program was put in place not to arrest more people, but to instead make the roads safer for everyone. If you plan on going out to the bars, always be sure to have a plan to get home safe, whether it be with a sober driver, or by calling a cab.
