According to Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith, his department has handled 37 cases involving counterfeit money this year. Smith says that a lot of the instances involved what is referred to as “movie money”, the currency used in movies which looks real from a distance, but when you get close, it clarifies that it is not legal tender. “We’ve seen it over and over and over again in Green Bay and in Brown County,” Smith explained. “Use extra caution, there’s a lot of them out there.” It is a good practice to inspect any cash you receive, even if it comes from a bank, as they do occasionally get fooled as well.
