The legal team surrounding convicted killer Steven Avery has continued to work diligently to get a new trial for their client, but their latest attempt has been shot down. Judge Angela Sutkiewicz issued a ruling on Wednesday denying Avery a new trial. Avery’s team was pushing for one on the grounds that the bone evidence in the case was mishandled. Judge Sutkiewicz says that Avery “failed to meet his burden to show the law for preserving evidence was violated or his constitutional rights were violated.” Avery was convicted in 2007 for the murder of photographer Theresa Halbach two years prior, and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
