The cause of death for a Manitowoc native who was found on a Las Vegas desert hiking trail has been released. Jeffery James Kalista was found on the trail on June 14th, after he was last seen four days prior. The 52-year-old was determined to have died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease and environmental heat exposure. Investigators determined that the temperature at the time of his death was right around 100 degrees. Kalista’s wife told reporters that her husband, a Postal Service letter carrier, enjoyed making solo trips to Vegas to gamble and utilize the hiking trails.
