An Appleton Family has donated $150 thousand to the Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center’s Phase Three Capital Campaign.
Friends of Manitowoc Aquatic Center Board President Amy Fricke-Weigel says that the family, identified as the Fredrickson’s, gave the money towards a $2.2 million fundraising campaign. The campaign will allow for three new additions to enhance the facility, a warming pool with hot tub atmosphere, a 2,700 square-foot splash pad with multiple water spray features and a second reservable shelter.
The Fox Valley family found out about the facility a few years ago through some family that lives in the area. The Fredrickson’s decided to travel to the Aquatic Center for their “SplashTime” event and immediately fell in love with the place. Splash Time is a morning set aside at the Aquatic Center for families with special needs members. During Splash Time, guests can experience the lazy river, slides and water toys in a much more tranquil setting with no charge for participation.
After a meeting with Fricke-Weigel, Mr. Fredrickson said this was something that he and his family wanted to be a part of. The Fredrickson’s have four children with special needs. In a news release, the family talked about how much they enjoyed their experience, “They are so helpful with our two children with their wheelchairs plus I enjoy watching the joy and excitement of my children playing in the water. That is worth every dollar for this trip.”
Fricke-Weigel says “I was over the moon when Mr. Fredrickson told me about the donation amount. We are grateful for the strong support shown by the donors for the phase three addition to the Manitowoc Aquatic Center.” About 75 percent of the campaign has already been secured with the goal to have the new additions operational by the 2020 summer season.
