There’s another big Youth Sports Tournament going on this weekend at Manitowoc’s Citizen Park. The 10th annual War on the Shore Girls Fastpitch Tourney gets underway late this afternoon on the Manitowoc Youth Sports 4 diamond Complex, as well as CP 2 & 3, and at Westfield Park. Tournament director, Kirk Shillcox, tells SeehaferNews.com that there are 76 teams of 8 to 18-year-old players from several states competing through Sunday evening. He spoke about the talent level of the players, saying “People will be really surprised at how well these kids are trained.”
Shillcox owns the Lakeshore Rise Girls Indoor Hitting & Training facility at 2614 Williams Street in Two Rivers and he says fastpitch softball has gotten better in the area. Several of the former players have gone on to play college softball. The focus on improving the overall skill level over the past decade has “proven to be very successful.”
Shillcox says having the War on the Shore at Citizen Park benefits the tournament, due to the number of attractions the families can visit, such as the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, and the Aquatic Center. “A lot of teams are traveling in from pretty good distances,” he explained, “That will help our hotels, motels, restaurants and other businesses in the area.”
Lakeshore Rise has 6 teams competing this weekend. Shillcox was quick to credit others for the tournament’s success including Louis Vigue, Adam Wachowski, and his biggest supporter, his wife Kristy.
