In its’ mission statement, the Lakeshore Humane Society in Manitowoc says it cares for over 1500 companion animals annually, while placing more than 900 of them each year in responsible, Permanent homes. Tina Nichols is Executive Director of the shelter at 1551 N. 8th Street, and she tells SeehaferNews.com that adoption prices vary when it comes to cats. “This month we are running a special where all adult cat adoption fees are waved,” she explained. “They’re full vaccinated, vetted, and micro-chipped.” The price for kittens are $30, while large dogs are $150, small dogs are $175 and puppies are $200.
Nichols also explained why adoption applications take anywhere from 1 to 3 days. She said that they need to check personal references, which can be stalled by people not answering their phone due to not recognizing the phone number or they don’t have their voicemail set up. If it takes more than a few days to get ahold of the references or vets, the Humane Society will get in contact with the adoption applicant again for assistance.
The Lakeshore Humane Society is open to the public Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 until 7pm, Saturday 11-5 and Sunday 11-3, but, they take volunteers 7 days a week.
