The Green Bay Police Department has once again reminded citizens of the importance of removing pets from cars on hot days. In a news release, the GBPD recalled a couple of instances over the summer, where they were called to save dogs that were left in hot cars. In both cases, the outside temperature was around 75 degrees, but inside the car, it was over 100 degrees. Also in both cases, the owner of the pet was cited for mistreating an animal, and fined $376.
We reached out to Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer to see if this was an issue in Manitowoc. He said that it has not been a major issue, but when they have received calls, they took the time to educate the pet owner on the importance of not leaving the pet inside the car. He told us that jail time is possible, depending on the situation, but they prefer to use the incidents as educational opportunities for the public.
