As of about 6:30 last night an estimated 300 Wisconsin Public Service customers were still without power, statewide, following last weekend’s severe storms. An update from Wisconsin Emergency Management shows powerful storms July 20th produced at least 16-tornadoes and straight-line winds in multiple counties with significant cleanup efforts taking place in Langlade, Polk & Barron Counties. The state continues to work with county & tribal partners to collect damage estimates. The preliminary estimate for public sector costs associated with the storm a week ago is about $5.3-million dollars.
Meanwhile, here in Manitowoc County emergency management director Travis Waack, said straight line winds of 70 to 90-miles per hour resulted in the most damage in the northern part of the county especially along State Highway 147, running from Maribel, to Mishicot, to Two Rivers. He said several persons were evacuated for a time when a tree fell on a natural gas switching station, causing a leak at 147 and Steiners Corners Road. Waack says a dozen trees fell into houses countywide, and a metal storage shed in Francis Creek had its’ roof blown off by high winds.
