Two people are being treated for serious injuries suffered when their plane crashed in southwest Wisconsin near Viroqua. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says the plane crashed Thursday afternoon near U-S Highway 14 and County Road Y. Deputies say 70-year-old Alton Akers of Idaho was flying with his 41-year-old son Cabe from Chicago to the E-A-A Oshkosh Air Show. Their 1940 fixed-wing airplane experienced engine problems and they tried to make an emergency landing at the Viroqua Municipal Airport. The plane’s wheels sunk in a field and it flipped over. Both victims got out of the wreckage and were taken to a hospital in Vernon and later transferred to Gundersen Health System.
