Unemployment rates rose significantly for both Manitowoc and Manitowoc County in June. Numbers released by the State Department of Workforce Development show the city’s jobless number is three-point-seven percent. That’s up from two-and-a-half percent in May and a seven-tenths percent jump from last June’s rate of three percent. Meanwhile, three-and-a-half percent of Manitowoc County’s workforce was unemployed, an increase from May’s rate of two-point- seven percent and just slightly less than last June’s figure of three-point-four percent. This mirrors a statewide trend where all 33 major cities-including Manitowoc and all 72 counties saw preliminary June jobless rates Increase. The state’s employment rate of two-point-nine percent increased for the first time in three months, up from two-point-eight percent in April and May.
