A blocked extra point was the difference Saturday night when the Racine Raiders edged the Manitowoc County Mariners 24-23, in a Mid-States Football League game at Ron Rubick Municipal Field. The Mariners (2-3) trailed 24-17 until Marcus Alfaro Junior tossed a touchdown pass with just over 2 minutes remaining to make it a one point ballgame. After the blocked conversion kick, Wes Dimmick recovered the onside kick giving the Mariners a chance to win it, but they ran out of time.
Racine had not allowed a point in its’ first 4 games this season. Alfaro also scored a rushing TD for the Mariners while on defense, linebacker Jaris Parnau, had 4 tackles, with 2 of them registering a loss of yardage.
Manitowoc County returns to semi-pro football action next Sunday when they face the Milwaukee County Chargers in a 1:00 start at Hart Park in Wauwatosa.
