A recent caller on the WOMT 1240 AM morning show “Be My Guest”, raised his concern about a Gay Pride Flag that is flying in front of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. Michael Appel said he was offended by it especially considering there’s a sign in front of the building showing No guns or weapons allowed. Museum Executive Director, Cathy Green, responded, saying “We want everyone to feel welcome, and safe at the museum, so we have policies and procedures in place to do that.”
Green further responded, in part, for a newspaper editorial. “From a series of pop-up exhibits featuring African Americans, women & indigenous people & their maritime stories, to new programs increasing access to visitors of all ages & abilities, and a recently established scholarship fund that removes financial barriers to visiting, we are taking an institutional approach to inclusion in our celebration of our rich maritime heritage.”
