The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs is investigating a drone crash Wednesday afternoon near Volk Field. National Guard officials say an R-Q 7 Shadow unmanned aircraft lost its operator link and went down in some trees south of Interstate 90-94 during a training flight. There were no injuries – but the drone suffered significant damage in the crash. Helicopters searched for the downed aircraft and it was eventually located by Volk Field security forces. The RQ-7 Shadow is equipped with a camera but is not armed. It was being operated by a platoon from Company D, 173rd Brigade Engineer Battalion.
