A centenarian & World War II veteran who had been residing in Manitowoc has died. Herbert (Hub) Gerend passed away last Thursday at Holy Family Memorial following a recent illness. He was 102. Gerend was a native of Kaukauna and had been living at Felician Village in recent years with his special friend and companion Dorothy Kutz. Hub enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 and served through the end of World War II in 1945 as an electronics technician, systems troubleshooter & eventually an instructor. His survivors include a stepdaughter Alison Christenson and her husband Mark of Manitowoc. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 24th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Grand site, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:45 and Mass to follow at 11:00 o’clock.
