Update 12:00 p.m. 7/12/19: The pet owner is still not in police custody at this time. Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith says they have an investigation to do that includes a necropsy on the deceased golden retriever. The department will be building a case by gathering surveillance video and interviewing detectives before they file a felony charge of mistreatment of animals causing death.
Animal lovers are irate at a 55-year-old woman from the Town of Lawrence after her dog died while being left in a hot car yesterday. The woman had gone into the Packers Pro Shop, leaving her pet in the car with the windows up, causing the animal to die from the heat. Authorities say that it probably only took about half an hour for the K-9 to die, and the internal temperature of the dog was reportedly so high, the thermometer couldn’t register the actual temperature. Pet owners can use this as a reminder that it doesn’t take long for an animal, or a child to overheat when left inside a vehicle on a hot day. Veterinarians suggest that if you must travel with your pet, to ensure that they have access to water, and if possible, leave the car running with the AC on. As of last word the owner of the dog has not been taken into custody.
