A 34-year-old Manitowoc man was taken to the County Jail yesterday after he allegedly struck and strangled his wife. Officers were called to a home in the 1600 block of South 13th Street at around 10:00 am on a report of a domestic violence incident. Officers spoke with a woman, who claimed her husband was acting “manic” at around 1:00 am, and wanted to argue with her. When she refused, he became more upset, eventually grabbing his handgun. He then strangled her with his forearm and attempted to force her out of the home by pulling her hair. She was able to break free by striking him in an undisclosed location. She also told officers that he had struck her with what she believed to be the butt of the gun, but she was not certain. The man was taken into police custody on charges of Strangulation and Battery, both with Domestic Violence Orders.
