A duplex in Appleton caught fire late last night on the south side of the city. Crews from the Appleton Fire Department were called to the home in the 100 block of East McKinley Street just before 11:30 last night on a report of smoke emitting from the structure. The responding firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly and were able to keep the damage to a minimum in the upper level. The lower level did receive some water damage in the process as well. There were no injuries reported, as no one was home at the time, and a loss value has not yet been set. The occupants of the duplex are now staying with relatives, as the building was declared uninhabitable. The cause of the fire still remains under investigation.
