Even though Independence Day has come and gone, many people will continue to celebtrate into the weekend. Fireworks continue to be a major part of that celebration, and while they are legal to buy and own in Wisconsin, ironically they are mostly illegal to use. Jim Temmer is with the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau and he told SeehaferNews.com that in “most municipalities you have to have a permit to use the fireworks.” The sale of said fireworks is not illegal, but a lot of people use them without the permit, which is against the law.
And, Temmer mentioned some safety tips regarding the purchase & use of fireworks, including know what you’re buying. “Make sure your not buying something that’s really huge or too big,” he explained. “It’s not just lighting a fuse…you have to be careful when lighting fireworks.”
The Better Business Bureau spokesman from the Milwaukee area also advised to ‘know your surroundings and have a bucket of water or a metal can handy. He said according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission there were 5,600 fireworks-related injuries that required treatment in U.S. hospital emergency rooms during a one month period last year from June 22nd to July 22nd. Another 500-sparkler and 200-bottle rocket injuries were also reported.
