A lot of college students these days are walking away from school with thousands of dollars of student debt hanging over their head. The Better Business Bureau is warning such people about a new phishing scam making the rounds, where the scammers will tell you they can refinance or forgive your student loans. This is a very dangerous scam, because they are attacking some of the most fiscally vulnerable adults, and promising them a way out. The old adage remains true here, “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.” Another good piece of advice is to never give out personal information out over the phone. If you believe you were contacted by a scammer, or were taken for a ride, report it to the Better Business Bureau’s Scam Tracker on their website.
