On Thursday, June 20, and Saturday, June 22, team members from Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County, along with their family members, participated in a highway cleanup during Aurora’s Weeks of Caring program to give back to the community that it serves. Weeks of Caring consists of a series of regularly-scheduled volunteer opportunities for team members.
“Our teams enjoy giving back to the community as part of the annual Weeks of Caring,” said Cathie Kocourek, hospital president at Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County. “The highway clean-up is just one example of our commitment to the community.”
Between the two days, team members picked up approximately six large bags of trash along Woodland Drive, as well as other larger items, like used tires.
The Aurora Weeks of Caring program builds on Aurora Health Care’s longstanding tradition of community service. In 2018, Aurora caregivers participated in a variety of volunteer opportunities, including reading to local classrooms during Read Across America and helping local food pantries and other community organizations with their needs. Similar activities have already taken place at Aurora sites across the state, including volunteering at humane society shelters, gardening in local parks and helping children in after-school programs.
