Despite a much-publicized move to Pennsylvania in 2017 the Manitowoc Company still maintains a solid presence at South Works in its’ namesake city. Andrew Konkle, the Crawler Cranes Value Stream Director, tells SeehaferNews.com there are actually 88 people spread across 3 groups who still report to the Manitowoc Company. “The primary one is engineering,” Konkle explained. “Our whole crawler crane care division…and then our product support people” continue to work out of the same building at 1424 Dewey Street.
Konkle, who is a 1999 graduate of Lincoln High School, explains that even with Alliance Laundry Systems moving into their building starting next month, there’s no long-term plan for those jobs to leave. “We understand that the skill set, and the product knowledge, the engineering horse-power if you will, sits in this area. There’s no chance of moving it. There’s just too great of a risk to the product to think that that would be successful.”
The company plans on finalizing the agreement with Alliance in July but those 88 employees will be housed on the 2nd floor of the building in a lease arrangement.
