Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu
Local State Senator Devin LeMahieu was one of those in the Senate voting to approve The 2019-21 State Budget yesterday. The Oostburg Republican represents the 9th senate district including the city of Manitowoc and southern part of the county. LeMahieu issued a statement following the vote saying, “The legislature’s two-year budget lowers taxes for hard-working families while still funding core priorities like education, infrastructure, and healthcare.”
He also pointed out the spending package makes a historic $156 million dollar investment in local roads. That includes a 10% increase for general transportation aids & uses surplus dollars to provide a $90 million one-time Boost to fix and repair local roads in towns, counties, and municipalities. LeMahieu continued, “thanks to prudent budgeting & a strong economy, Wisconsin has a surplus. This budget invests a portion of that surplus into asphalt & concrete to repair local roads.”
