Republicans in the Wisconsin Assembly spent most of Tuesday trying to make the two-year state budget bill what they call “line-item veto-proof.” The Joint Finance Committee approved the original version almost two weeks ago. Led by Speaker Robin Vos, many changes were made to the language of the spending plan before it was approved on a 60-39 vote. No Democrats voted for it. Governor Tony Evers hasn’t said whether he will veto the entire budget, or use his line-item veto powers to knock out specific items.
