Yesterday the Wisconsin State Assembly passed Senate Bill 68, authored by Senator André Jacque and Representative Ron Tusler, which closes a significant loophole in child exploitation and pornography laws. The bi-partisan legislation was requested by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigators at law enforcement agencies across Wisconsin, codifies existing case law regarding “child erotica” and mirrors statutory changes made in other states. The bill has been passed by unanimous voice vote in both legislative chambers and heads to Gov. Evers for his expected signature. Senator Jacque released the following statement regarding the passage of Senate Bill 68.
“Senate Bill 68 combats a significant vulnerability within Wisconsin’s child exploitation statutes identified by prosecutors and Internet Crimes Against Children investigators. The bill closes the loophole by codifying case law, clarifying definitions and including “child erotica” as pornography. In both the Senate and Assembly, this common-sense reform was passed unanimously. This bill now goes to the Governor, where I fully expect him to sign it into law.”
Sen. André Jacque represents Northeast Wisconsin’s First Senate District, consisting of Door and Kewaunee Counties and portions of Brown, Calumet, Manitowoc, and Outagamie counties.
