Brown County’s Crime Prevention Foundation is looking for applicants eligible for up to $40,000 in funding to help support existing crime prevention programs and for the implementation of new programs aimed at breaking the crime triangle in our community.
“Crime prevention measures like these programs can significantly reduce crime while being much more cost-effective than traditional means,” says County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “It’s important we all do our part to help Brown County continue to be a safe and successful place to live, work, and play.”
The crime triangle means that for a crime to occur, you need DESIRE to commit the crime, ABILITY to commit the crime, and OPPORTUNITY to commit the crime. We’d like to thank the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation for their guidance in assisting us with being able to make these grant awards to area organizations. Previous winners include Crime Stoppers, City of De Pere Police Department for a mobile handheld fingerprint device, Green Bay Police Department for Teen Police Academy 2019 and Citizens Academy and Building Bridges.
“Crime Prevention strategies reduce the opportunity for crime to occur resulting in more efficient use of law enforcement resources and ultimately a better community to live and raise a family,” says Brown County Sheriff Todd Delain. “I encourage citizens throughout Brown County to think of ways to improve neighborhoods and develop or support programs that deter or reduce crime through education, recreation and/or community involvement.”
To qualify for Crime Prevention Funding grants, the program or project’s primary purpose must be to prevent crime, provide a funding source for crime prevention programs, and encourage the public to report crime, or assist law enforcement agencies in the apprehension of criminal offenders. Qualified applicants include private non-profit organizations, government agencies, schools, and school districts operating in Brown County. Grants will not be awarded to individuals. Grant funds should not be used to supplant funds from an organization’s operating budget.
