Sheboygan police say a 51-year-old homeless man who took an expensive sailboat for a joy ride got about four miles from the marina before authorities were called. Police say they’d never seen a crime like this before. They think the thief was drunk when he took off in the sailboat worth about a half-million dollars. Workers at a power plant near Lake Michigan called the U-S Coast Guard. The man could not provide any identification, and alcohol was found aboard. The man was taken in on charges of OWI, burglary, theft over $10,000 and trespassing. The boat belonged to a local sailing education group and the keys were left in it.
