Warmer weather means it’s time to break out the grill and enjoy a good burger, brat or steak. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a first-time flipper, you know that grilled food in the summer is bliss. But to enjoy that bliss we have to remember to grill safely. Here are some simple grill safety tips to ensure that you and your family stay safe as you wow them with your mastery of the ancient art of cooking over an open flame. First off it is important to ensure your children are aware of the dangers involved in playing around a hot grill. Be sure to keep all flammable items away from the grill, and ensure it is in a well-ventilated area. A buildup of gas inside a closed grill can create an explosion if it ignites, so be sure to leave the lid open when you are igniting it. Also, when igniting, be sure to use the proper ignition source. For example, only use lighter fluid on charcoal. When you finish grilling out, ensure all the knobs, including the one on your propane tank, are completely shut off, and leave your grill in place until it has completely cooled to avoid burns. The most important thing to remember, DON’T BURN THE MEAT!
