Continuing the celebration of June Dairy Month, the Kewaunee County Breakfast on the Farm will be taking place this Sunday at the Kinnard Farms in Casco. We spoke with Jackie Stewart who told us that the Kinnard Farms began quite humbly when her parents Alvin and Millie Kinnard purchased 14 cows from a great uncle and 80 acres of land. The farm continued to grow as Jackie told SeehaferNews.com. “We now have about 8,300 cows, “ she explained, “and about 9-% of those cows are direct descendants of the original cows.” She went to inform us that they now crop just about 13,000 acres and built a second site for milking operations. That location was built four years ago, a short way down the road from the home farm.
This Breakfast on the Farm will have a little different event to kick off the celebration. At 7:00 AM, An hour before the food begins being served, there will be a Polka Mass. Father Edward Looney will be officiating the mass, while the Sugar Bush Boys will be providing the music. Jackie told us that they will also be sticking around and continue to provide entertainment until around 11:00 AM.
The Kinnards will be serving what they call “the biggest omelet you have ever seen”, fresh rolls, a variety of cheeses, and strawberry sundaes. There will also be several activities for the whole family including a petting zoo, horse and tractor-drawn wagon rides, farm tours, and fun games. Stop on out to the Kinnard Farms at N8200 Tamarack Road in Casco this Sunday from 8:00 AM until Noon for fun, food, and friends.
