Sixth district Congressman Glenn Grothman is among those who have expressed deep concern over the situation at the U S – Mexico border. The Greenbush Republican represents a district including Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties. He recently traveled to the border and viewed portions from Laredo, Texas to Tucson, Arizona. He calls the border crisis the biggest danger of our lifetime.
Grothman told SeehaferNews.com that it was not uncommon for people to drown as they attempted to cross the border in the Laredo section. The Rio Grande River may only be 4-5 feet deep there, but the Congressman explained that they do not account for the undertow, and get swept under. Others end up dying from dehydration. Grothman says over 140,000 people entered the country illegally in just the month of May.
We asked why he thinks some people oppose stronger border enforcement, and he said that those people “must feel there’s a benefit to them in letting 140,000 people in.” He went on to say that allowing that many people in changes the country, and he believes some people want that. He reiterated his opinion by saying “No country can exist if they allow unlimited immigrants come in from another country.”
The issue has caused sharp disagreement between the two political parties and sparked a national debate. Grothman says he looks forward to meeting with his constituents in the 6th district tomorrow during the Sheboygan County Breakfast-on-the-Farm…at the Hanke Farms, in Sheboygan Falls.
