Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith is growing more and more concerned with a trend that has emerged in his City. According to Smith, there have been 18 license plates stolen off of vehicles since May 1st. “It’s definitely at a higher rate than we’re normally seeing, and it’s continuing,” the Chief explained. What would a criminal want with your license plate? Smith went on to say “We found one on a car in Indiana. Others have been used in gas station drive-offs. People will get letters in the mail that say ‘Hey, your car was used in a gas drive-off.’ Well, it wasn’t the car, it was the plate on the back of the car.” The best way to protect yourself from such theft is to purchase the kind of screws that are not easily removed, and if applicable, leave your car parked in your garage when you are at home.
