The Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center, now in its’ 10th year of operation at Citizen Park, has served a positive need for residents of the greater Lakeshore area, averaging 385 people a day. Now, Friends of the M-F-A-C Board have announced a new capital campaign for Phase-3 of the Aquatic Center. Board President Amy Fricke-Weigel says their campaign of $2.2 million will include three new features at the aquatic center. She said they’re presently at around 75-percent of their fundraising goal and are reaching out to the public to help complete the campaign.
Fricke-Weigel explains Phase-3 additions include: a 2700-square foot Splash Pad, which is kid-friendly and handicapped-accessible, along with a “Hot spring, cold warming pool”. Amy told us that they “Get a lot of excitement for this one. It goes up to about 90 degrees but it has all the hot tub features,” such as the jets and a waterfall. The final segment of the project is the construction of a second reservable shelter at the park.
Fricke-Weigel said they’d like to see the campaign wrap-up by the end of this summer. They are aiming to be open by the spring of 2020. She tells SeehaferNews.com that three donors have pledged in excess of $100,000 including an Appleton family that has contributed $150,000 after being so impressed by their Splash Time for special needs individuals. Fricke-Weigel says those donating $1,000 or more will have their name on the Donor Wall. To contribute to Phase-3 you can go to MantyAquaticCenter.org.
