The Madison Fire Department reports the death of a second Wisconsin Ironman athlete pulled from Lake Monona. The M-F-D says apparatus engineer Todd Mahoney was rescued Sunday morning and transported to the hospital in critical condition where he fought for his life over the next 48 hours. Officials say Mahoney died today (Tuesday) in the hospital. He was a nine-year veteran of the fire department. The medical examiner is investigating Mahoney’s cause of death. Firefighters rescued Michael McCulloch of Cottage Grove Sunday and he was the first athlete to die in the hospital.
