Are you searching for something fun and creative to do this summer? Look no further than the Manitowoc Public Library! In addition to their summer reading program, the public library has a ton of classes, programs, and fun going on for babies, seniors, and everyone in between. In collaboration with the Rahr-West Museum, the library will be hosting a Digital Arts Program for teenagers (13-18) which spans over 12 weeks. Teens have the option to complete one or both of the courses available. Participants will meet weekly to create original digital art projects in drawing and/or podcast recording. The drawing course runs from June 18- July 9 at the Rahr West, and the Podcast course runs from July 16-August 20 at the library. Both classes run from 3:30-5:00. The classes will culminate in a reception and exhibition on August 27. Throughout the course, teens will develop and demonstrate new technology and media-based skills using the leading-edge equipment available in the Library’s Community Creation Room (CCR). The Community Creation Room has a video creation station which includes specialty cameras and professional-grade editing software, as well as a music creation station with the technology of a sound recording studio. According to Lisa Pike, teen associate with the Public Library, previous experience with technology might be helpful, but is not required to participate. While there are currently no ‘formal’ classes that teach teens to use the other equipment available in the CCR, students can request time to be shown the room and the items that are available. The equipment will be available to the students to use during the DAP Program, if they wish to. To register for the DAP program, head to http://www.manitowoclibrary.org/dap/. If Digital Technology isn’t your thing, but you still want to get you or your teen involved this summer, visit the Manitowoc Public Library’s website for other programs available. Other fun options include Battle of the Books, a Henna Tatoo Program, an underwater robotics workshop in collaboration with the Maritime Museum, or a teen lock-in. Get ready for a summer of fun at the library!
