At number 28 in the first round the Brewers chose Ethan Small of Mississippi State. Brewers amateur scouting director, Tod Johnson, called Small “the consummate pitcher”, explaining he throws a ton of strikes and gets a ton of swings and misses.” Then, in the 2nd round of the draft with the 65th pick, Milwaukee selected Antoine Kelly, a southpaw from Wabash Valley Community College. A scouting report on the 6-6 Kelly is after adding 20-pounds over the past year and improving his mechanics, he’s now dealing in the upper 90’s. The draft resumes today with rounds 3-thru-10, while the remaining 30 rounds take place tomorrow.
