Details have been released regarding the standoff in Menasha yesterday morning. Police were sent to the 800 block of Fifth Street shortly after midnight and spoke with a woman who claimed that the father of her young child was in the home with the child, and that he was upset. The woman believed the man to be armed, and claimed he had made statements about having a shootout with police. A perimeter was created, and the negotiation process began. The man refused to follow instructions, so the Winnebago County-Wide SWAT team was brought in to take over the scene. The police report indicated that a “remote device was utilized to make entry into the home during the mid-morning hours” allowing officers in the home. The standoff continued until around 10:40 AM, when the man finally handed the child over to police, and surrendered. The child has since been reunited with the mother, and as of last report, no charges have been filed against the father.
